Why Study Spanish?

What’s the Best Way to Study Spanish?

Different learners have different styles and methods that work for them, but there are some best practises when it comes to language learning. Whether you’re trying to self-study Spanish or taking Spanish lessons, here are a few tips to accelerate your learning.

Learn Spanish in context

Using flashcards or doing dozens of vocabulary drills might help you remember some Spanish words in the short-term, but these methods rely on rote memorisation. To make deeper connections to the language, you’ll want to learn words, phrases, and concepts in context. A learning environment rich with audio and visual cues that mimic real-world situations can help you develop conversational skills that stick with you.

Speak Spanish for yourself

It’s not enough to listen and recite words and phrases in Spanish. You’ll need to speak up for yourself. Pronunciation is a critical piece of learning a language, and whatever method you choose to study Spanish, you’ll want to receive feedback on your accent. You can even change the settings on all your devices to speak to you in Spanish. Any way you can fit it in, find a way to make Spanish part of your daily life.

Be consistent

Learning Spanish is a journey, not a destination. As long as you show up and do the work every day, you’ll find yourself gradually gaining confidence speaking Spanish. Committing to practise daily is the single most important thing you can do to ensure your efforts to study Spanish succeed. Even on hectic days when you don’t have time for a lesson, find ways to squeeze in listening and speaking in Spanish.
