Learn how to say “go” and other common Spanish words using the award-winning Rosetta Stone app.
How Do You Say Go in Spanish
If you want to say the word “go” in Spanish, you would probably be using a conjugation of the verb “ir.” In the present tense, the conjugation goes:
yo voy
tú vas
él/ella va
nosotros vamos
vosotros váis
ellos/ellas van
Beyond the present tense, your use of “go” would depend on what you were hoping to express and could involve verbs with more precise meanings, such as “desaparecer,” “marchar,” “andarse,” and others.
For all the intricacies of Spanish verbs, learning Spanish can feel more intuitive than expected for many learners—especially if you already speak another “romance language” (like French or Italian) or if you have had significant exposure to the basics of Spanish itself. When any two languages originate from a shared root language, they often have many words in common (cognates) or have significant similarities. Spanish has direct roots in Latin, just like Italian, French, and English. That’s why you can easily find English words like “train” that look almost identical and sound remarkably similar in French (train), Italian (treno), and Spanish (tren). Aside from the high degree of similarity in spelling and vocabulary, you’ll probably find that the Spanish language has a wonderfully clear and consistent system of pronunciation. Unlike with English, there are only a few irregularities. On top of that, the standard Spanish alphabet is a fairly close match to English, with 29 letters instead of 26. The extra three you’ll need are: ch (chay), ll (elle), and ñ (eñe).
Using the Rosetta Stone immersive approach, you’ll learn the language, not just the words.
You’ll be prepared to use the Spanish language in your everyday life. So it’s not just about the features, but what you’re able to do because of them. That way, you’ll be ready to handle all situations with ease and confidence.
Learn Spanish Words and Phrases
Some people make the decision to learn Spanish because they encounter the language so often in their everyday life. After all, Spanish is frequently used in popular TV shows, movies, and music. Others decide to learn the Spanish language because they plan to work, volunteer, or vacation sometime soon in one of the 20 countries around the world in which Spanish is the official language. So whatever your reason, you can get off to a strong start learning Spanish by focusing on how to pronounce some of the basic Spanish words and phrases. This is key if your goal is to engage with any of the estimated 437 million Spanish speakers around the world.
Far too often, new learners get caught up trying to memorise lengthy lists of Spanish words and phrases. This approach can leave you frustrated, unable to understand or participate in actual everyday Spanish conversations. That’s why it’s so important to focus on learning to pronounce and understand commonly used Spanish words and phrases. This smart approach to learning the language will go a long way towards helping you feel confident conversing with locals.
It’s important to note that Spanish does have some unique pronunciation distinctions that can make it challenging for language learners. As one example, the letter r is pronounced differently and takes some practise for most new learners. This distinct sound is formed by tapping the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth, about a third of the way back in the mouth. Some Spanish language experts suggest new Spanish learners practise making the “tt” sound, as it sounds in the English word butter.
Polishing your Spanish pronunciation requires that you receive immediate and accurate feedback on your spoken efforts. Such feedback will allow you to make needed corrections to your Spanish pronunciation. Then once your pronunciation is accurate, you’ll want to practise until you can comfortably shape the sounds that make up spoken Spanish.
Rosetta Stone helps you get the pronunciation just right in a snap with TruAccent. Our patented speech engine instantly compares your voice to native and non-native speakers, so you get real-time feedback for the most accurate pronunciation. It’s also adjustable, which allows you to fine-tune your accent. TruAccent is among the most powerful tools for helping you learn and speak the Spanish language.
Once new learners have acquired the ability to understand and pronounce basic Spanish words and short phrases, they will be ready to move onto learning the longer Spanish phrases that are the backbone of everyday Spanish conversations. Rosetta Stone’s language lessons are brief and built to help you first learn the basics and then scale towards understanding and speaking Spanish with confidence.
