Learn how to say “confusing” and other useful Spanish words using the award-winning Rosetta Stone app.
Confusing in Spanish?
If you want to say “confusing” in Spanish, you may use “confuso” (masculine singular), " confusa " (feminine singular), “confusos” (masculine plural), or “confusas” (feminine plural).
Mastering the ins-and-out of “confusing” and other adjectives in Spanish can certainly seem intimidating, but they’re not all that difficult to get used to—especially if you happen to speak related languages like French and Italian—or even English. Italian and French are closely related to Spanish, both being in the same romance language family—whereas the English language makes use of many French and Latin or Italian words and phrases that are cognates (lingual cousins of one another).
That’s why you will frequently notice that there are a great number of English words and phrases like the word “information” that sound close in French (information), Italian (informazione), and Spanish (información). Many Western students of Spanish tend to find it has an easy to understand pronunciation system, with few irregularities in pronunciation. This is, fortunately, unlike the English language (known to be among the most difficult to master). Even better, the Spanish alphabet is matched almost perfectly to English and the majority of other major European languages. There are only three additional letters you’ll need to learn: ch (chay), and ll (elle), and ñ (eñe).
Rosetta Stone’s immersive approach allows you to learn the language, not just the words. What makes Rosetta Stone unique is that we prepare you to use your new language in the real world. So it’s not just about the features, but what you’re able to do because of them. That way, you’ll be ready to handle any situation while sounding great.
There are few dependable shortcuts, but you’ll make progress by combining individual practise using Rosetta Stone’s award-winning mobile app and practise with other Spanish language learners in Live Tutoring. This combination allows you to have absolute control over your learning speed and, ultimately, your long-term progress.
Start to Understand Spanish
As a beginning Spanish learner, you’ll want to first learn the basic building blocks that come into play in everyday conversation. Essential words and phrases such as who, what, when, where, why, yes, no, please, etc. will ease your entrance into everyday conversation in Spanish. Here are some of those basic building block words and phrases:
Hola / Hello Adiós / Goodbye Me gusta / I like No me gusta / I don’t like Sí/ Yes No / No Por favor/ Please Gracias / Thank You Lo siento / Sorry Salud / Bless you ¿Quién? / Who? ¿Qué? / What? ¿Por qué? / Why? ¿Dónde? / Where?
As you may have noticed—Spanish does have a few crucial differences in pronunciation that can make it a bit of a challenge for some learners, at least early on. One example is found with the letter r which is pronounced differently and takes some practise for most new learners. This distinct sound is formed by tapping the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth, about a third of the way back in the mouth. Some Spanish language experts counsel new Spanish learners to practise making the “tt” sound, as it sounds in the English word butter.
To improve and perfect your Spanish pronunciation skills requires immediate feedback, so you can make word-by-word corrections. When you’ve got the pronunciations correct, you’ll practise until both your tongue and brain learn how to naturally form the sounds that comprise the Spanish language. Rosetta Stone’s speech-recognition engine, named TruAccent, is integrated into every language lesson, giving you real-time feedback on your pronunciation. The speech-recognition engine compares your voice to the voices of native and non-native speakers, and then provides feedback on your pronunciation. TruAccent is also adjustable, which lets you learn to fine-tune your accent. The product was developed by analyzing and processing the natural speech of Spanish speakers and is one of the most powerful tools available to help you become a confident Spanish speaker.
Once you’ve learned the basics of Spanish, you’ll want to move on to the longer phrases that form the backbone of everyday conversations. Rosetta Stone’s brief and focused language lessons are built with this in mind. The language lessons lead to the ability to speak and converse with confidence in real-life situations. Rosetta Stone helps you focus on learning strategies and tactics that will speed your understanding of the Spanish language.
